Library programming

The last couple of weeks have been spent monitoring news about the Waldo rapist in order to determine what kinds of community information the library may need to provide to the community. Right now we are working with the police department to put together some self-defense classes but it may take a few weeks since they are currently swamped with requests.

I do understand why women are flocking to the workshops. Having someone lurking in the community who targets and harms women is scary stuff. But while it is good for people to learn how to defend themselves, I really wish that when different groups put together self-defense workshops during the rest of the year they would be as in-demand as they are at the moment. I am sad that it takes such a tragedy to pack the room with attendees.
